Hometown Wellness Showdown Kicks Off September 17
Registration begins September 7

Foxboro, MA – What town is the healthiest town in Eastern Mass? Find out by signing up for the Hometown Wellness Showdown, a four-week wellness event packed with prizes, tips on exercising and eating well and much more! The event is sponsored by the Hockomock Area YMCA, boston.com and Lose It!, the Boston-based diet and exercise app, and YMCA’s throughout Eastern Massachusetts. The Showdown is free and runs from September 17 through October 12, 2012. Registration opens September 7. For more information contact any branch of the Hockomock Area YMCA or visit their website at hockymca.org. To register for the Showdown, visit boston.com/getmoving or ymcaboston.org.

To participate in the Showdown, individuals may register and choose their hometown and their local YMCA (a most healthy YMCA will also be crowned). Participants earn points by logging exercise and healthy meals and snacks on the Lose It! app or website (www.loseit.com). Points count toward the participant’s town and YMCA totals. The leader board for the Showdown will be displayed daily on boston.com/getmoving. The town and YMCA with the most points will be crowned the healthiest. Plus, each week, active Showdown participants are entered into a drawing to win hundreds of prizes including Y memberships, Fitbit pedometers and wireless scales, Health O Meter scales, Oster My Blend Blenders and New Balance gift cards. New Balance is also offering 20% off at participating retail stores for Showdown participants and Y members.

YMCA members have the opportunity to earn more points during the Showdown by working out at the YMCA, taking hundreds of free group exercise classes and participating in the Y’s free Wellness coaching sessions. To help make the Y accessible to all, the Hockomock Area YMCA is waiving the joiner fee for the entire month of September, as well as offering a free 1 week trial.
