Community Announcement

FOXBORO, MA – On Sunday, May 22nd from 1:00pm to 3:00pm visit one of DCR’s Historic Curatorships and learn how the Curators transformed the Barton House into a beautiful home, preserving it for future generations. This 1901 Colonial Revival overlooks placid Sunset Lake in F. Gilbert Hills State Forest. The Curators have fully restored the house and are in the process of restoring the historic garden landscape.

Through the Historic Curatorship program, some of the DCR’s unused but significant historic buildings are rehabilitated, reused and maintained by an outside party in return for a long term lease. The Curators will be on site, as well as DCR staff who will be available for questions about the history of this park as well as the Historic Curatorship program.

We will meet at the main parking lot located at Forest Headquarters at 45 Mill Street in Foxboro. From there, we will hike in about 1 mile to the Barton House to enjoy an open house and informal walk around the grounds before we hike back to the main parking lot. Reasonable accommodations upon request. This program is free, although space is limited. Pre-registration is required; call Amy at (508) 272-9376 to pre-register. For park info & directions, visit http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/southeast/fgil.htm. This program is sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation.
